4 Synopsis

A priest (waki) of the Muro no Myōjin in Harima Province (Hyōgo) visits the Kamo Shrine and sees village women (maeshite, maetsure) drawing water at the river Mitarashi-gawa. The women explain the history of the Shrine, praising its divine virtue as they work. Finally they reveal that they are avatars of the Gods and disappear. Then the Gods appear in their true forms: Mi-Oya (nochitsure) and Wakeikazuchi (nochishite) promise to bestow bountiful harvests and guard the homeland.
