4 Synopsis

An imperial envoy (waki) and his attendants (wakitsure) travel to Mt. Arashi (Kyoto) to view the cherry trees that were brought there from Mt. Yoshino. They encounter an old couple (maeshite, maetsure), who are the guardians of the cherry blossoms. Having told the legend of the cherry trees on Mt. Arashi to the travellers, the couple reveal that they are in fact the gods Komori and Katte who protect the trees. They disappear, then return in their true form together with the deity of a subsidiary shrine of the god Zaō Gongen (ai) and the fierce Zaō Gongen (nochishite) himself. The heavenly beings perform a festive dance in celebration of the present reign.
