Furniture has been my bread fabric and leather couches butter since the fifties. Amongst the squares and crescents, people don’t buy just to sit. Young men with new flats, and they all ask for quality. A funky accent chair, carries the room. I remember selling a Chesterfield to a gentleman from St John’s Wood, and the scars became part of the charm. That’s the point with retro. People wander past the big chains, chair unique but they always come back.

Gloss wears off, whereas vintage lasts. Every part of London tells a different story. St John’s Wood desires quiet luxury, with deep seats. Camden stays chaotic, with upcycled seats. That’s London. End of the day, the right piece will define a home. Flat-pack won’t do that. I still check the stitching for strength, and the difference is clear. Vintage has truth. Next time you flick through a catalogue, think again. Take on a classic wingback, and unique armchairs let it settle into your life.
