Passing through the village of Noda in Settsu Province (Osaka), a traveling monk (waki) is caught in the snow, so he stops and waits for the storm to pass. Suddenly, a snow spirit (shite) in the form of a beautiful woman appears. She is deluded and barely conscious, but lamenting that she will only fall to the ground and vanish from sight, she begs the monk to help her attain buddhahood. She dances a beautiful dance amid the swirling snowfall. Morning breaks, and the snow spirit vanishes.<br />
