A man named Tameyo (waki) from Minase in the country of Settsu Province (Osaka) left his family to become a monk at Mt. Kōya. One day, Tameyo deserts the monastery and runs away home. Arriving there, he encounters an older sister (kokata) and a younger brother (kokata) offering holy water and flowers for their late mother. Tameyo realizes that the siblings are his own children but pretends not to know them. The siblings ask Tameyo to chant a sutra for their mother, not realizing that the monk is their father, and he does so. Just then, the ghost of his wife (shite) appears. Although she resents Tameyo for leaving his family to become a monk, she is glad that he and the children are reunited. She declares that she will now attain nirvana thanks to Tameyo’s sutra chanting, then vanishes.<br />
