Kiso Yoshinaka (tsure) of the Genji clan, Monk Kakumei (shite), Ikeda no Jirō (tsure), and other retainers (tsure), are on the march to Tonamiyama in Echizen Province, where they find the army of the Heike clan. As night falls, Yoshinaka sets up camp as he prepares for a battle in Kurikara Valley. Suddenly, he spots a scarlet shrine in the woods. Ikeda tells Yoshinaka that the shrine is to Hachiman, the God of war, and Yoshinaka rejoices, ordering Kakumei to offer a prayer for their victory. Without hesitation, Kakumei writes the prayer, reads it aloud to the satisfaction of all, and presents it to the shrine. A banquet is held, and Kakumei performs a celebratory dance.<br />
